In ancient days, a story tells us that Choni planted some carob seeds and fell asleep for 70 years. When he awoke he saw a woman gathering the fruit of the carob tree. Choni asked her if she was the person who planted the tree. She replied, “I am his granddaughter”. Therefore Choni knew that he, in fact, slept for 70 years. Choni then knew for certain that we are the keepers and protectors for our future generations. We are all Choni. On Tu B’Sheva I like to purchase some seeds to plant in the spring. It gives me hope in this deepest part of winter that spring, flowering trees, plants and flowers are just around the corner in our ever circling and spiraling circle of life. Blessings for all of us to strive to complete our earthly mission.
